The Armchair Mystic

Wayne Vedeckis

This course is based upon the book, The Armchair Mystic, written by Mark Thibodeaux, SJ. The style is light, engaging, and sometimes whimsical. The maturation of a person in levels of prayer is described as: 1) “talking at” God, 2) “talking with” God, 3) “listening to” God, and 4) “being with” God. Included are discussions of formula prayers, spontaneous prayer, meditation, contemplation, Lectio Divina, and how to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thes 5:17). Also included are suggestions on how to improve one’s prayer life by eliminating obstacles and distractions that inhibit effective prayer.
